Roku TV black screen with sound? How to fix it
A black screen with audio still playing almost always points to a display or HDMI issue rather than a dead TV. Work through these in order — most people are fixed by step 3.
Fixes to try, in order
- Power cycle: unplug the TV for 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Check you're on the right input — press Home to return to the Roku screen, or switch inputs to rule out an HDMI source.
- Reseat the HDMI cable at both ends, or try a different cable/port.
- If it's a streaming stick, plug it into a different HDMI port and make sure it has enough power (use the supplied power adapter, not a TV USB port).
- Still black? Force a restart from the Roly app, or do a factory reset as a last resort.
FAQ
- Why does my Roku have sound but no picture?
- The device is running but the video signal isn't reaching the panel — usually a loose or failing HDMI connection, a wrong input, or a power-delivery issue on a streaming stick. Reseating the cable and power cycling fixes most cases.
