Roku app won't connect to the TV? How to fix it
A remote app connects to your Roku over your local network, so when it can't find the TV the cause is almost always a network mismatch or a device-control setting. Here's the fix.
Fixes to try
- Confirm your phone and the Roku are on the same Wi-Fi network — not a guest network, and not one device on cellular.
- On the Roku, open Settings › System › Advanced system settings › Control by mobile apps and set Network access to Default or Permissive.
- Restart the Roku (Settings › System › Power › System restart) and pull to refresh in the app.
- Turn off 'AP isolation' / 'client isolation' in your router settings — it blocks devices from seeing each other on the network.
- Restart your phone's Wi-Fi (toggle it off and on) and reopen the app.
FAQ
- Why can't the app find my Roku?
- The two most common reasons are being on different networks and having 'Control by mobile apps' network access disabled on the Roku. Fix both and the app will discover the TV automatically.
- Does the Roly app have this problem?
- Roly uses the same standard local-network discovery, so these same checks apply — same Wi-Fi, mobile-app control enabled, and no router client isolation.
