Roku won't connect to Wi-Fi? How to fix it
Wi-Fi trouble on a Roku is usually the password, the signal, or the router. Here's how to get it back online.
Fixes to try
- Go to Settings › Network › Set up connection › Wireless and reconnect, retyping the password carefully (it's case-sensitive).
- Restart the Roku (Settings › System › Power › System restart) and restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds.
- Move the Roku closer to the router, or remove obstructions — streaming sticks behind a TV get weak signal.
- Check the signal strength under Settings › Network › About. If it's poor, that's your problem.
- If your network has separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz names, try the 2.4GHz one — it reaches farther.
After it's back online
Once the Roku is on Wi-Fi, put your phone on the same network and the Roly app will find it automatically — handy for controlling the TV while you finish troubleshooting.
FAQ
- Why does my Roku keep disconnecting from Wi-Fi?
- Usually weak signal or router congestion. Move the Roku closer to the router, reduce obstructions, restart both devices, and if possible connect a Roku player by Ethernet for a rock-solid link.
- Why won't my Roku accept the Wi-Fi password?
- Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive and easy to mistype on the on-screen keyboard. Double-check capitals and symbols, or use the Roly app's keyboard to enter it more easily.
