Roku TV no sound? How to fix it
When a Roku TV has picture but no sound at all, it's almost always a setting rather than a hardware failure. Work through these.
Fixes to try, in order
- Press mute once to make sure the TV isn't muted, then turn the volume up.
- Check Settings › Audio › Audio mode and set it to Stereo — some content won't play if it's set to a surround format your TV can't output.
- If you use a soundbar or receiver, confirm the audio output (HDMI ARC or S/PDIF) matches how it's connected, and that the external device is on and not muted.
- Try different content or another channel — the silence may be that one video, not the TV.
- Restart the Roku (Settings › System › Power › System restart).
FAQ
- Why does my Roku have picture but no sound?
- Usually the audio mode is set to a surround format the TV can't decode, or the output is routed to an external device that's off or muted. Set Audio mode to Stereo and confirm your speaker connection.
