Roku TV volume not working? How to fix it
If your Roku's volume won't change, the cause is usually one of a few things: the audio is muted, the remote needs attention, or the sound is being sent to an external device that has its own volume.
Work through these fixes
- Check the mute button — press it once to un-mute, and try volume up.
- If you have an enhanced/voice remote, replace the batteries and re-pair it (hold the pairing button in the battery compartment ~5 seconds).
- If audio goes to a soundbar or receiver over HDMI ARC or optical, change the volume on that device instead — the TV's own volume may be fixed.
- Restart the Roku: Settings › System › Power › System restart.
- As a quick workaround, use the volume buttons in the Roly app on your phone.
Check the audio output setting
Under Settings › Audio, make sure the output matches how your speakers are connected. An HDMI ARC or S/PDIF setting sends control to an external device; switch to the TV's speakers if you want the Roku volume buttons to work directly.

- Volume and power are often sent by infrared even on Wi-Fi remotes, so they need line of sight and good batteries. If the rest of the remote works over Wi-Fi but volume doesn't, replace the batteries and make sure nothing blocks the front of the TV.
