How to update your Roku TV software
Roku usually updates itself automatically overnight, but you can check manually anytime — updates fix bugs, add features, and are often the cure for glitchy channels.
Check for an update
- Press Home on the remote.
- Go to Settings › System › System update.
- Select Check now — the current version and last-update date are shown here.
- If an update is available, the Roku downloads and installs it, then reboots on its own.
No remote?
You can run through the exact same menu path using the Roly app's on-screen D-pad while connected to the TV.
FAQ
- How often does Roku update?
- Roku checks for updates automatically every 24–36 hours and installs them in the background. Checking manually just forces that check to happen now.
- My Roku won't update — what now?
- A failed update is usually a network issue. Confirm the Roku is online (Settings › Network › About), restart it, then try Check now again.
