How to turn on a Roku TV without the remote
A missing remote doesn't mean you're stuck staring at a black screen. There are three reliable ways to turn a Roku TV on without it.
1. Use the button on the TV
Almost every Roku TV has a physical power button. It's usually on the back panel, underneath the center of the screen, or along a bottom edge — sometimes a small joystick you press in. One press powers the TV on.
2. Use your phone
- Put your phone on the same Wi-Fi network as the Roku TV.
- Open the Roly app — it finds the TV and connects.
- Once the TV is on, use your phone as a full remote from then on.
3. Let another device wake it (HDMI-CEC)
If a device like a game console or soundbar is connected by HDMI and 1-Touch Play (HDMI-CEC) is enabled, powering that device on can wake the TV and switch to its input automatically.
FAQ
- Where is the power button on a Roku TV?
- Most Roku TVs have the button on the back, or underneath the panel near the center or a corner. On some models it's a small joystick-style button you press inward.
- Can the app turn the TV on if it's fully off?
- Yes, as long as the TV still has standby power and is on your Wi-Fi. The app wakes it over the network the same way the remote does.
