How to set up parental controls on a Roku
Roku offers a few layers of parental control: a PIN that guards purchases and adding channels, and content-rating limits on Roku TVs with live/antenna TV. Set the ones you need.
Require a PIN for purchases and channels
- Sign in at my.roku.com and open PIN preferences.
- Choose to require a PIN for purchases and adding channels (recommended), then set a 4-digit PIN.
- Save — now no one can add channels or buy anything without it.
Limit content on a Roku TV
On Roku TVs with a tuner, Settings › Parental controls lets you block antenna/live-TV content above a rating you choose, protected by a PIN. Note that streaming channels each have their own separate kids/profile and rating controls inside the app.
FAQ
- Can I lock specific streaming apps on Roku?
- Roku's built-in controls cover purchases, adding channels, and antenna TV. To restrict content inside a streaming app (like YouTube or Netflix), use that app's own kids profile or parental settings.
